The Basic Kabbalistic Analogy

Here is the basic Kabbalistic analogy of the High Holidays:

The Nesirah (Separation) is a Kabbalistic creation dynamic that the Kabbalists use to explain, among other processes, the underlying cosmic process of the entire High Holiday period from Rosh Hashanah all the way through Simchat Torah.

The imagery is a male and female divine paradigm, upon which is based the Adam and Eve corresponding story. The male sleeps, the female who has been attached back-to-back with the male is separated away from the male. Now that she exists independently of him, she then chooses to re-bond with him upon his awakening, and they commence to intimately and thoroughly bond with each other and unite in unification. Their unification reproduces the shefa (life force or blessed abundance) that keeps us going for the entire year.

The life application of this analogy is that Hashem is the male, Adam figure, and we, the Jewish people, are the female. Our back-to-back attachment represents our living our life in a state of rote, just continuing doing what we have been doing without any real self-awareness or inspiration from within ourselves or from the One Above, just the same old, same old.

Then the male, Hashem, sleeps (so to speak) and we, the female, separate from Him and remain in a state of self-aware independence, meaning from Hashem’s perspective, that Hashem treasures our living our lives in a conscious way with a full dose of free will.

And Hashem sets us free from Him and closes His Eyes in a contrived sleep, thereby allowing us to be independent, and the meaning from our perspective is that after being in a deep slumber about who we are and what we are and why we are, we wake up and see ourselves.

We take a good look at ourselves, together with the impact of our lives, and decide if we like what we see, part or all of it, and then we realize that we can become anything we want. The sky’s the limit, we can live the life we love.

Tools and Meditations

Let’s explore and actualize these initial phases of the analogy, with the following tools and meditations:

THE INVENTORY TOOL

            A.  Make a list of the highlights of your previous year. Once you recall as much as you can recall, then pick out those accomplishments, experiences or events that stand out. I call them THE GREATEST HITS! Even without going further in this process, this in and of itself should bring you a lot of inner joy, which is something I'm sure we could all use as much of as possible in our lives.

B. Now begin to process the GREATEST HITS. Take notice of what you thought would happen, and what actually happened. What's the lesson you can derive from this for the future?! Which experiences had the most impact on your lives?! How can you apply these 'impacts' into your future?!

C. Now begin to project the lessons you've learned into what you want to accomplish in your upcoming year.

Our sages teach that when you give over wisdom to the wise, they'll expand the wisdom even more. I encourage all of you wise people out there to take this principle, and create for yourself a beautiful new future out of your past!!

LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE MEDITATIONS

1. WHAT DO YOU WANT?

IMAGINE THAT YOU ARE BEING OFFERED BY SOMEONE, WHO HAS THE POWER TO GRANT IT, WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU WANT.

THERE IS NO LIMIT TO WHAT YOU CAN HAVE.

IN YOUR MIND OR ON A PIECE OF PAPER, NOTE ALL THAT YOU CAN THINK OF THAT YOU WANT. THE SKY’S THE LIMIT.

GO THROUGH YOUR LIST AND PRIORITIZE THE MORE WANTED THINGS BEFORE THE LESS WANTED.

2. PLUG YOUR DESIRED ITEMS INTO TO YOUR DAY, WEEK, YEAR. ETC.

PROJECT GOING THROUGH YOUR UPCOMING DAY IN A WAY THAT YOU WOULD MOST LOVE.

DRAW FROM THE LIST OF THINGS THAT YOU WANT, LISTED ABOVE, AND SEE

HOW MANY YOU CAN INTEGRATE INTO YOUR IDEAL UPCOMING DAY.

DO THE SAME FOR YOUR UPCOMING WEEK AND MONTH AND YEAR.

3. NOTICE THE IMPACT

NOTICE HOW LIVING THE LIFE THAT YOU LOVE IMPACTS YOUR LIFE.

SEE HOW DIFFERENTLY YOU RELATE TO OTHERS.

SEE HOW YOUR LIFE HAS A REPRODUCTIVE EFFECT OF CHANNELING DOWN

MORE AND MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR DOING WHAT YOU TRULY WANT TO DO.

4. BEGIN NOW TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE

BASED ON THE ABOVE PROJECTIONS, TAKE ONE SMALL BUT SIGNIFICANT STEP TOWARDS LIVING THE LIFE YOU LOVE.

CHOOSE ONE ACTIVITY COMING UP FOR YOU IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

ALLOW YOUR MIND TO RECEIVE CREATIVE WAYS THAT CAN TURN THIS ACTIVITY FROM JUST A STANDARD ACTIVITY INTO ONE THAT YOU TRULY LOVE.

DO THE SAME FOR MORE AND MORE ACTIVITIES, UNTIL EVENTUALLY YOU BECOME A TRUE LOVER OF LIFE.
